10th Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2024 in Vilnius – Closed

The Exhibition, which has been organized for two years, was closed in Vilnius. The “10th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2024” in the Museum of Applied Arts and Design in Vilnius, Lithuania was exhibited only 2 weeks: from 24th May – 9th June, 2024. That is very sad. This is the result of the attitude in Lithuania towards the artist’s book.

Exhibiting Picasso in a museum is not difficult, he is a famous artist. But there are many artists who are significantly better but not as famous. Conjunctural Lithuanian and foreign artists are always exhibited with pathos. How about others? It’s even easier to work with dead and famous artists, whatever they are. It’s just business. It is significantly more difficult to work with living artists and help them achieve global recognition. But also much more interesting.

Not understanding “artist’s books” as an art object, as art, is not a sin. However, it is very sad that after 31 years of our active activity with the artist’s book, after 60 international exhibitions of the artist’s book that we organized in Lithuania and abroad, after the lectures and workshops of foreign book art experts in Vilnius, it is looks the artist’s book is still not art in Lithuania. And just like 31 years ago, it is arrogantly ignored now. Very sad.

If lovers of the “artist’s book” in Vilnius did not have time to see “10th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2024” in the museum, we invite you to come to the Clock Tower Library of the Plunge Municipality in September, where the exhibition will be on display for the whole month.
